History of ONE

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has provided services in the shipping industry since 2018. It was founded in 2017 as a merger of the biggest Japanese shipowners: K Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha), MOL (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines) and NYK (Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha). Here is the timeline that shows how the company was established:

  • 1885: Osaka Shosen Kaisha (OSK Lines) was founded. Yubin Kisen Mitsubishi Kaisha and Kyodo Unyu Kaisha merged to form Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK).
  • 1919: Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha was established.
  • 1942: Mitsui Steamship Co., Ltd. was founded.
  • 1964: OSK Lines and Mitsui Steamship Co. Ltd form Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd (MOL). Nitto Shosen and Daido Kaiun form Japan Line, Ltd. (JL). Yamashita Kisen and Shinnihon Kisen form Yamashita-Shinnihon Steamship Co., Ltd. (YSL). Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha merged with Iino Kisen Kaisha.
  • 1989: Japan Line and Yamashita-Shinnihon Steamship merge to form Navix Line (NL)
  • 1998: NYK acquires Showa Line Co. Ltd.
